Getting to know your library eResources

Getting to know your library eResources

A CILIP Training Session for Staff Working in Public Libraries

Online Half-Day Course

9 August 2022 10am-1pm

Access to information and services in our libraries has evolved in recent years to be are as much about online resources as physical books. With our customers becoming more technologically enabled, we need to know how to assist and direct them to the information they require across our whole digital library. With such a wide range of eResources at our disposal it can sometimes feel overwhelming to remember which one is which and what they contain in order to assist a customer has a query.

This session provides a whistle stop tour of the eResources we have available. We’ll be covering key resources, what the content is, what devices they work on, a variety of useful features that it’s handy to know about, and who might best benefit from them.

You’ll learn for which queries digital should be the first port of call, and by the end you will have increased your confidence so that when a customer next asks you, for instance, where they can find an article on an obscure Lord from the 16th century, you’ll know where to turn.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of the purpose and scope of eResources
  • Learn about the key eResources and how they can be used by customers including the key functions for use, accessibility etc.
  • Build confidence in signposting customers to relevant eResources that will assist their queries
